CSKA Moscow v Terek Grozny 07/05/2016

CSKA looked to cement their place at the top of the table with just 3 games left in the season. It looked to be a close contest between the top 4 clubs. Grozny looking to move up the table to secure a Europa League spot.

On a sunny day in Russia, and with the CSKA fans in full voice, the home side looked to take full advantage of the good weather and give their fans a win.

CSKA started very brightly, forcing a save in the opening 5 minutes. Then, in the 11th minute, a superb header from a corner smashing against the post and rebounded safely out. Terek not showing much sign of a fight back.

Just a minute after CSKA’s header came off the post, forward, Musa, found him self one on one with the keeper, and from point-blank range managed to scissor-volley the ball directly at Terek’s keeper. A huge let off for the away side.

The home side did finally get their goal in the 17th minute. Dzagoev looping a free kick into the box which was met by the head of Wernbloom, which saw the ball nestle in the bottom corner. 1-0 CSKA.

Another free kick from CSKA shortly after was saved by the Terek keeper.

Terek Grozny’s best chance of the first half came in the 37th minute. A shot from the left of the box, forcing CSKA keeper, Akinfeev, to react quickly to palm it away.

The game turned into quite a cagey affair in the second half. Neither team particularly making any clear cut chances, though CSKA always threatened. A set piece nearly provided a second goal for the home side, but was cleared off the line.

On the 74th minute, CSKA managed to find themselves in a 3-on-2 scenario, Musa passed the ball to a teammate who was perfectly tackled to deny an almost certain goal.

In the 81st minute Terek’s midfielder, Wilkshere, got his second yellow card and was sent off. Making the task of an equalizer even less likely for the away side.

At the final whistle, CSKA found themselves still top of the table, but by just 2 points. With Rostov just behind them. Terek Grozny moved down to 7th place after Spartak Moscow’s win against Dynamo Moscow.cska2
